Entoloma madidum is a big blue "thick-fleshy" Tricholoma-like pinkgill, that clearly differs from the other typical blue-colored pinkgills growing in unfertilized grasslands. It is a very beautiful and eye-catching fungus. Smells weekly farinaceous. E. bloxamii is probably mixed with E. maddidum in Norway, but until now E. bloxamii has not been found here. They can be distinguished by the size of the spores.

Up to 80mm, deep bluish

White, later pink to brown

Up to70mm, thick tapering toward base, fibrillose  Blue to grey-blue.

None, very characteristic in form and colour.

But probably  mixed with E. maddidum which is the common species in Norway.

Ecology/indicator value:
Entoloma madidum is a very rare pinkgill and grows in old unfertilized grasslands. It is a very good indicator of such biotopes, and grows often in localities with many other rare and red-listed fungi.

Fructification in Norway: From medio July to beginning of October, mainly in September.
