Hygrocybe citrinovirens is a relatively large yellow to green-yellow waxcap with dry fibrillose conical cap, and a smooth, finely fibrillose stem and almost white gills. This waxcap belongs to the subgenus Hygrocybe. This subgenus is characterized by regular tramacells, which means that the cells in the gills have a size of 200-1000 μm or more. This along with relatively small (6-8 μm) often rounded spores separates citric waxcap from many other yellow waxcaps.

Ecology/Indicator Value: H. citrinovirens is a very rare waxcap with only a few finds in Norway. It grows on calcareous pastures together with many other rare grassland-fungi often on so-called "hot spots" and is an indicator of very high value. |
