Hygrocybe miniata is a characteristic fungus in grasslands. It is relatively common and has orange to yellow colors. Grows often together in clusters.

 

Ecology/Indicatorvalue:

H. miniata is common and does not seems to have any special preferences and therefore no special indicatorvalue for rich grasslands.

Small, up to 50mm. 

Dry, orange-red with yellow edge - often more or less yellow and with a depressed center.

Surface covered with fine squamules.

 

Broadly adnate sometimes with a decurrent tooth.

Red towards cap and a lighter yellow/orange edge.

Spores relatively small, approx. 7,5µ.

Thin, up to 50mm

Sometimes curved.

Dry and smooth, sometimes depressed with a longitudinal groove and a silky sheen.

H. helobia is very often mixed with H. miniata, but this has more red colors and is not so squamulose. H. helobia normaly comes early in fall.

 

Ecology/Indicatorvalue: 

It has limited indicatorvalue since it is very common and does not seem to have any special

preferences concerning  soil and geology.

 

Fructification in Norway: From beginning of July to beginning of November, mainly in

September/October.
